Highlights from my Travel Bucket List

We all have some form of travel bucket list, even if only in our minds. I absolutely love writing lists and then crossing things off (I have notebooks filled with actioned lists, it is so satisfying!) and decided writing down some travel dreams were a good way of keeping oneself accountable and to give me something to work towards. Naturally I want to visit nearly every place on this earth, so as not to bore you, here are some highlights of my list.

See the midnight sun rolling over the horizon in Nordkapp, Norway

I actually tried to see this back in June 2007. However the weather had other ideas and I soon found myself in blizzard conditions (in the middle of summer! Humf!)

What I was meant to see (Image source)

What I actually saw – ripped off!

Visit Lake Bled in Slovenia

Breathtakingly beautiful, I cannot wait to see Lake Bled for myself and explore Slovenia.

♥ Go on a yoga retreat somewhere, anywhere.

I’ve been practicing yoga for several years now and would love to escape for a few weeks on a yoga retreat to focus on myself and my practice.

♥ Explore the Balkans

I have seen a LOT of Europe, however I am yet to visit this part of Europe including Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania etc.

♥ Visit China and see sights such as the Great Wall of China, the Terracotta Warriors and the Forbidden City

♥ See the Northern Lights in Iceland

Both times I have been to Iceland were in the summer, when the Northern Lights aren’t visible. Next time!

♥ Stay overnight in a Buddhist temple on Mount Koya in Japan

Staying in a temple alongside Buddhist monks sounds like an amazing experience.

♥ Visit the salt flats of Bolivia

I am yet to set foot in South America, there are so many sights to see and the salt flats of Bolivia is high up there!

♥ Visit Greenland

I am so fascinated by this isolated and gorgeous country and its people.

This list could go on and on but this is just a taster of what I hope to experience sometime in the (hopefully) near future. Now I just need to win the lottery and clear my schedule for next year! ;)

What is on your travel bucket list?

  • Oh the Northern Lights for sure! They look amaaaaazing. Japan was on our list, and were planning to go there recently, but now it will be put off for a little while. So New York is next! Oh and I didn’t have Greenland on my list but that last picture is gorgeous – I might just have to add a visit there to my list as well! x

    • When are you going to New York? It will be amazing! I am hoping to get there for a few weeks next year. I love it :)

  • Not sure when :) Next year some time. I’m like “oh, we need to save, to buy a house, to do [insert very adult/sensible thing here]” and husband’s like, “stuff it, lets go to New York!” But he always seems to get his way when it comes to going on big exciting holidays :P We’ve never been so it will be very exciting!

PS: I had a look at your profile on The Loop – amazing, I can’t believe some of that was your student work! :)

    • Your husband sounds like me! I know I SHOULD be saving up to buy a house or stay put in a sensible job and progress in my career but I am regularly declaring “stuff it, I am off to ______ (insert random country here)”. Unfortunately once you are bitten by the travel bug it never leaves you :)

And thank you for your kind words on my portfolio! I really appreciate that. Most stuff is photographed rather shoddily in my lounge room but I am taking new photos soon as I am currently in the process of getting my print portfolio together for graduation (argh! scary).
Do you have your work uploaded online?

  • Oooh good luck!
No, I don’t have a portfolio yet! :P I am just new – I am literally just on my mid session break of my first semester! Its a career change for me… We had the people from The Loop come chat to us at our ‘creative conference’ at college so I’m looking forward to get a portfolio on there but I have to wait until I complete some substantial projects :P
