Pantone Colour of the Year 2015: Marsala

It’s that time of year again, and Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2015 as Marsala, “a naturally robust and earthy red”.

According to Pantone Colour Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while it’s grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.”

“This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”

I must admit it’s more of a shade I associate with lipstick as opposed to a colour I would instinctively use in a design, but I’m keen to give it a go!

What do you think of 2015’s colour of the year? Love it or hate it?

I like it! I’d probably call it ‘old brick’ but I think it’s lovely.

Agreed. It looks pretty similar to my preferred shade for everyday lippy! I was a bit skeptical until I saw the media images but can totally see it being picked up for its ‘natural robustness’. Heh.

It’s a bit of a safe colour I think (I’m more of a tropical-shaded person) but, well, you can’t argue with “natural robustness” haha
