When you simply have to get away from the stress and the everyday rush, a weekend trip is one of the best ways to recharge your batteries. But where to go, and what to do when you’ve only got 48 hours to experience something new and thrilling? Well, if you’re looking to have a fun, relaxing adventure in one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in the world, Prague is exactly where you need to be! Want to make the most out of your visit? Then let us show you what some of the places and activities that you definitely have to see are!
Where to Stay
Depending on your budget, you can opt for a nice, luxury hotel like the Le Palais Art Hotel, or even something truly unique and gorgeous such as the Alchymist Prague Castle Suites. If you’re on a tighter budget, you can always stay at a hostel and you won’t have to spend much on lodgings, as long as you don’t mind a simple place that will offer basic comfort while you go and explore.
Plan it out in Advance
While you can enjoy spur-of-the-moment decisions while in Prague, we do recommend that you plan out a careful itinerary, because you won’t have much time to explore. We also recommend that you only pick out a few things to visit, instead of trying to see everything in two days. Even if you manage that, it’s very unlikely you’ll actually enjoy rushing around like a madman, and you probably won’t remember much about the things you’ve seen. If planning isn’t your strong suit, you can always hire a destination management company that will organise everything for you and give you suggestions about where you can go and what you can do, with the time and budget you have.
Explore Old Town
The best part of Prague is that you’ll find charm pretty much anywhere you turn, but nothing can quite match the bohemian beauty of Old Town. It’s a part of the city that’s full of fun sights: the Astronomical Clock, the National Gallery, the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and many shops, cafes, and restaurants that will pull you in.
Visit the Jewish Quarter
The whole place is worth a visit, and beside the beautiful Old-New Synagogue, the Jewish Cemetery is one of most hauntingly beautiful places you will see. It’s an important monuments of Jewish culture in Europe, and the visit starts at the museum where many of those who have tragically lost their lives in the past century are remembered. The Pinkas Sinagogue can also be found there and in it there’s an exhibition of children’s drawings form the Terezin ghetto from the time of the Holocaust.
Walk the Castle Grounds
Prague Castle is one of the most majestic buildings you’ll ever see, and it’s the residing place of the current president of the Czech Republic. It dates back all the way to the 9th century, and it’s one of the largest castle complexes in the world. You’ll need to pay for a ticket to get in and walk the tour, but it’s worth your while, and right nearby are the St. Vitus Cathedral, and a small cobbled street called the Golden Lane – which is right where Franz Kafka used to live – so you will save on time as well!
Scout the Best Pubs
Beer is the most popular drink in Prague, and you don’t want to miss out on sampling it while you’re here. You can sign up for a bar crawl tour (most hotels can direct you where to go) and visit some of the most famous pubs in the whole city with a group of other enthusiast, or you can explore on your own and check out Vinárna U Sudu, an underground bar that looks like a cave, or maybe go to one of the many beer gardens where you’ll be able to try excellent sausage and good brews. The Anonymous Bar, Green Devil’s Absinthe Bar & Shop, and the Hemingway Bar are all also worth a visit.
Visit the John Lennon Wall
This wall is covered in lyrics, symbols, political statements, and a picture of John Lennon, and is a symbol of the Prague youth rebellion back in the 1980s. It’s one of the more popular attractions, and it will give you a great chance to take some cool pictures.
Enjoy your trip to Prague! You won’t regret seeing the loveliness of this gorgeous European capital, so head out there and make some memories.
