Hi everyone! I am so excited to introduce a new weekly column called Creative Fridays. Each week I will share a round up of my favourite projects or interviews with bloggers, creatives and small business owners from the design, travel and food industries. It’s my opportunity to share with my readers what and who is inspiring me each week, and give these successful people a well deserved shout out.
To get the ball rolling, I have interviewed the lovely Jayne Gorman from Girl Tweets World. Take it away, Jayne!
Hello! Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Jayne and I work full time as a travel blogger and social media manager. I’m originally from London but relocated to Sydney two months ago with my Aussie partner. So far the city has been a brilliant inspiration for my blog girltweetsworld.com.
What work are you most proud of to date?
I’ve been blogging for almost 5 years but about 1 year in my blog gained the attention of the marketing team at Flight Centre UK who hired me to head up their content and social media team. This was a huge learning curve but highly beneficial for me as a blogger to see how things worked on behalf of a brand.
What was the turning point in your career?
In 2011 I won the award for Travel Blogger of the Year at the British Travel Press Awards. This was the first time a blogger award had been included on the listing and was a wonderful opportunity for both myself and the industry to take travel blogging more seriously. Since 2011 I have noticed more industries including awards for bloggers on their listings and I would encourage bloggers to put themselves forward – you might be just what the judges are looking for!
Who would you love to collaborate with one day?
I have no set person in mind but I would love to team up with someone more tech-headed than myself to realise all the ideas I keep having but don’t have the coding skills to create!
What’s your number one tip for someone wanting to start their own business/blog?
Just be yourself. Blogging requires time, passion and personality and I think it would be hard to keep up the content and consistency if you weren’t being true to yourself.
Where can we find you online?
My travel blog can be found at www.girltweetsworld.com and my professional portfolio is at jaynegorman.com. You can also find me on twitter, pinterest, instagram and facebook as Jayneytravels.
Thanks for your time Jayne, and stay tuned for Creative Fridays next week!
