I’ve been following Lucy’s delicious creations on her blog for a while now, and when she was asked to join me at the Bloggerati talent agency I was thrilled to have a fellow baking partner in crime! We finally met in person at the recent Nuffnang Sydney Trip and she was just as amazing as I expected her to be, and I look forward to working on fun things with her in the future. Welcome, Lucy!
Hello! Who are you and what do you do?
Hi there! My name is Lucy and I run a food blog called Bake Play Smile. It’s all about fun, food and happiness… and lots of sweet treats!
What work are you most proud of to date?
I get really excited when I make a new recipe that I absolutely love. It doesn’t matter how many chocolate cakes you make… you’re always trying to make an even better one! I’m also trying really hard to work on my photography – I only picked up a ‘real’ camera last year, so I’m quite the work in progress. For someone who was never really interested in photography, I’m now addicted to taking pretty pictures!
What was the turning point in your career?
Up until halfway through last year, I was a full time primary school teacher and trying to blog on the side (at ridiculously crazy hours!). After realizing that I was completely burning myself out and that there was no way I could take my blog to where I wanted it to go while teaching full-time, I took the plunge and applied for 6 months leave. It’s now been over 12 months and I’m still on leave! It was the best decision I ever made. It’s amazing how things just seem to fall into place when you take a risk (and work your butt off too, of course!!).
Who would you like to collaborate with one day?
I think it’s really important to find people that you have similar values to and work with them. Early on in my blogging days, I met Lauren from Create Bake Make. We hit it off straight away and have since started a weekly food blogger link up party together, as well as a Thermomix dedicated website called ThermoBliss. We’ve worked on several recipe eBooks and are currently working on an eCourse. I find it so much more fun to work with somebody else – as blogging can be a super lonely job at times!
What’s your number one tip for someone wanting to start their own business/blog?
Hands down my number one tip would be to run your own race. Never, ever compare your blog to another. Your blog is all about you and that’s what makes it so special. Never compare stats, photos, recipes…anything! Just love what you do and focus on making your blog the best it can be. That’s when the amazing stuff happens!!!
Where can we find you online?
Well most of the time you can find me pottering around in my kitchen… but when I’m online, I hang out in these yummy little spots:
