This recipe is based on a love story, between 2 of my favourite things – croissants and waffles. Oh, and Nutella! It’s called a Croffle, and I have decided to fill it with Nutella to produce quite possibly the easiest and most delicious dessert I’ve ever made.
I love trying to shove pretty much anything edible in my waffle iron to see the result (for example, these Panettone Waffles) and after successful creating a DIY Nutella Cronut a few years ago using puff pastry, I knew this could be a fun experiment.
I stumbled across this video on Youtube which first coined the term “Croffle” and I instantly knew a Nutella version had to happen. I used a slightly different technique – cutting each puff into a seperate rectangle and layering them together like a sandwich, while she uses one sheet per croffle, folded over. Personally, I think having 4 cut sides per Croffle results in 4 times the amount of crispy, puffed, flaky edges – which can only be a good thing.
As you may have noticed, I am kind of Nutella obsessed. From Nutella Stuffed Choc Chip Cookies to 3 Ingredient Nutella Donuts, from Banana and Nutella Muffins to Nutella Hazelnut Fudge, I have something for every hardcore Nutella lover out there.
And as it just so happens to be World Nutella Day on 5th February (that’s today!) I knew this was the perfect recipe to share.
Now, back to the Croffle. Think layers and layers of flakey puff pastry, crisped up in a waffle iron, filled with oozing hot molten Nutella. And you can have one in your mouth in around 5 minutes. Now we’re talking, right?
And the result? It’s actually heaven. The puff pastry makes the waffle impossibly crisp, the hot Nutella makes a mess in the best way possible and I would have this for breakfast every day if I could. Let’s make Croffles a thing!

Ingredients
- 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry thawed
- 1/2 cup of Nutella
Instructions
- Thaw your puff pastry sheets on the bench until pliable.
- Preheat your waffle maker.
- Depending on the size of your waffle maker, trim the puff to fit. I trimmed mine into 10x11cm rectangles and got 4 rectangles per puff pastry sheet.
- Place the first 2 puff sheets onto your waffle maker, top each sheet with a tablespoon of Nutella, place the second 2 sheets of puff on top and close the waffle maker. You are essentially making toasted sandwiches, but with pastry, and in a waffle iron!
- Allow the croffles to cook until golden and crispy, it took my waffle maker 5 minutes.
- Repeat the process with your remaining puff rectangles and Nutella, until you have 4 waffle sandwiches.
- Eat piping hot and enjoy!
