Make Fresh Juice and Nut Milks at Home with the Optimum 700 Cold Press Juicer

I’ve been on the hunt for a cold press juicer for a while, and was happy to invest in a good quality cold press juice machine. After a lot of research I settled on the Optimum 700 Advanced Cold Press Juicer and the kind folks at Froothie sent me one to review. In addition to being able to strain and squeeze the juice from fruit and vegetables without cutting them up, this particular juicer also was able to produce nut milks and even homemade tofu! A lot of the cheaper models produce heat and oxygen when blending, which results in valuable enzymes and nutrients being lost. A quality cold press juicer will allow you to extract more juice from your fruit and vegetables, and produce a superior quality juice.

The Optimum 700 comes with 2 feeding chutes – an 8cm x 8cm feeding chute, which is the largest feeding chute on the market, and also a smaller a 3.5cm x 4.5cm chute which is used to juice longer ingredients such as carrots. As mentioned previously, you don’t need to cut up your fruit and vegetables before juicing them in this machine, which makes prep time much quicker and easier!

The juicer comes with 3 types of strainers – the course strainer is for soft fruit such as strawberries, kiwis and bananas, and the end result contains more pulp. The fine strainer is for juicing hard fruit and vegetables with fibres, and produces a smoother juice with less pulp. The homogenising strainer/blank plate is for grinding dry, hard food materials such as coffee beans and nuts. It can also be used to make baby food and frozen fruit ice cream. The juicer also comes with a tofu box to make your own tofu, a fabric cloth to strain homemade nut milk and an additional juice strainer to remove further traces of pulp.

I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed by all the bits and pieces that were in the box at first, but the juicer comes with step-by-step instructions on how to assemble it. A few minutes later the juicer was assembled and ready to go!

I was feeling a bit under the weather, so decided to make a juice loaded with vitamin C. I peeled the orange but that was the only prep required – everything else could go in whole, skin and all!

I was amazed by both the strength and the quietness of this juicer as I pulverised the whole carrots.

The cold press juice poured out the right hand juicing tube, and the leftover pulp was deposited into the left hand pulp outlet.

Tada! Fresh cold press juice made at home, for the fraction of the cost of buying it from a juice store.

Next up was a green juice made with cucumber, celery, kiwi fruit and spinach. This juice flavour was dictated by what was floating around in my vegetable crisper, so you can swap out whatever you have on hand!

I had previously used the small, long feeding tube to juice my carrots, and in this instance I used the larger feeding tube for my handful of spinach.

And voila, another delicious and nutritious juice made at home! Both these recipes make 2 glasses of juice, so I poured the remaining in jars with lids and put them in the fridge for another day.

And last, but certainly not least, it was time to make nut milk! I have recently become quite lactose intolerant and have been experimenting with non-dairy milks from the supermarket. They either taste awful or are really expensive, so the thought of being able to make a “nut mylk” at home was very appealing!

Almond milk is available nearly everywhere these days, and unfortunately that just so happens to be the nut I am allergic to. I love the taste of cashews and struggle to find cashew milk at the major supermarkets, so this was the perfect time to make my own.

The process is incredibly easy – all you need is time and a little patience! I soaked my nuts for 4 hours, but it’s even better overnight. Then you simply discard the soaking water, combine the nuts with new, fresh water, and juice away! I found the milk was quite thick with only 2 cups of water, so I ended up adding an additional cup to achieve the consistency I wanted. You can also add in vanilla bean paste, cinnamon or whatever flavourings you like.

Orange Juice

  • 4 carrots
  • 2 oranges peeled
  • 1 knob of ginger approx 5cm
  • 1 knob of turmeric  approx 5cm

Green Juice

  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 2 kiwi fruits
  • Handful of spinach
  • 1 apple for added sweetness optional

Cashew Nut Milk

  • 1 cup of cashews soaked
  • 2-3 cups of filtered water


Orange Juice

  • Gradually process the fruit and vegetables through the Optimum Juicer feeding tube.
  • Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy!

Green Juice

  • Gradually process the fruit and vegetables through the Optimum Juicer feeding tube.
  • If the juice is a little thick for your liking, pour 1/4 cup of water through the feeding tube to extract the remaining juicing liquid from the machine and thin out your juice.
  • Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy!

Cashew Nut Milk

  • Soak the cashews in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Drain the water from the cashews and discard.
  • Combine the soaked nuts with the filtered water and slowly pour through the feeding tube of the Optimum juicer.
  • Pour into a glass and enjoy!
