I’m a blogger, small business owner and graphic designer who works from home. This sounds like the dream (who doesn’t love working in pyjamas?!) but it means my technical capabilities are limited. If I ever want to print anything larger than A4 or of photo quality, I need to outsource it to my local printer. Whilst my standard desktop printer is fine for printing documents and mockups for clients, it could never produce anything near the professional standard required for high-quality photographs. So I was thrilled to try out the new Epson SureColor SC-P405 printer and test some of my work in A3!
This printer is designed with photographers and creatives in mind who want to be able to produce high-quality prints larger than A4 at home. Whilst the printer does take up quite a bit of space, it’s worth it for the professional photo quality of A3 prints. There is also an option to print photos up to 13 inches (33cm) wide and up to 44 inches (112cm) long via use of a roll paper feed which is included with the printer.
The printer was easy to set up, and features 8 separate ink cartridges. This means you can easily replace the colours as needed. Using the Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 pigment ink, you can print vibrant images that are water, smudge and fade-resistant. You can print on the Epson SureColor using a wide variety of paper types including glossy, luster, matte, canvas and fine art papers.
I decided to test print one of the photographs of my Strawberry and Mascarpone Cream Layer Cake. I loaded up a piece of the Epson Glossy Photo Paper and hit print.
I’m not going to lie – I was super impressed with the quality of this print. I decided to photograph it side by side with what my existing desktop printer printed on A4. This is exactly the same artwork, only the printer and paper is different. What a difference the SC-P405 makes!
Whilst the A4 print is dark and muddy, my A3 print on the Epson SureColor is bright, vibrant and the colours are true to what I see on the screen. I also love that you can do borderless printing, this means I can print right to the edge and no longer need to trim off the margins. The Epson glossy paper makes this print look of professional quality, and the finished print looks so delicious I want to frame it!
I’ve also made a video of myself reviewing the printer so you can see it in action.
Want to try it for yourself? The Epson SureColor SC-P405 retails for $1099 and you can purchase the printer from select photography specialty shops and Epson’s online shop. Plus, when you register your printer you get a $50 voucher to spend on whatever you like at their online store – I’d suggest stocking up on some Epson inks or paper! There is also the option to take out the Epson 2 Year On-site CoverPlus Service Pack which extends the standard service coverage by an additional 2 years.
I am loving my new Epson SureColor SC-P405 printer and the high standard of glossy photo printing it gives me is a welcome addition to my home office setup!

This printer would be great for making larger printable for my wall art! Definitely an investment piece when I set up my home office. Enjoy your video demo of the printer, by the way. :)
Ah this looks so good. I have printer regret at the moment as I bought a much cheaper one but of course the quality is not great at all – in fact, terrible. I won’t be able to print out my photos so will have to keep sending them awa. Love your video, really shows what you are getting.
Thanks so much Seana! I too had printer regret after just buying the cheapest thing on the market… it’s pretty awful!! I am loving the freedom this new printer gives me, no more regular visits to the print shop :)
