Hey guys! Here is another protein ball recipe to complement last week’s Raw Cashew and Coconut recipe. Inspired by the lovely Tina from Bite Me Show Me, I tweaked this recipe to suit what ingredients I had in the cupboard. The rich chocolate and peanut butter flavour makes this a decadent-tasting ball, but they are still only 123 calories each!
In addition to these protein balls being delicious, they are a cost effective and healthier version to most of the store-bought versions. I used to buy similar balls in the supermarket and they cost $4.50 (each!) and were chock-full of fillers and preservatives. No thanks.
I have a stash of these at home and at work, they are perfect for a snack and are a more sensible choice than a chocolate bar or packet of crisps. I’m thinking of adding coffee powder to them next time for an extra boost before a workout.
If you want some more protein ball recipe ideas, don’t forget to check out my Raw Cashew and Coconut balls as well!
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup protein powder
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp honey
- 10-12 dates
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 cup oats
- Add ingredients into food processor and blitz until combined.
- If the mixture still remains crumbly, add a teaspoon of water at a time until it comes together.
- For easy portioning, use an icecream scoop to create 6 large balls, then halve each and roll into 12 little balls.
- I store mine in zip lock bags in groups of 4, putting half in the freezer and keeping half in the fridge.
What’s your favourite pre/post-workout snack?
I love your version! I think the dates would give it a more chewy texture. May need to try it next time! Eat all the balls =P x
Yes I love the texture the dates give it! I love dates so want to add them to ALL the balls :p
Oooh these look like the perfect snack and are so easy to put together!
Ridiculously simple! I make them all the time now for work and home snacks :)
Such a delicious little snack.
So easy and tasty :)
I just tried this recipe and it tastes amazing! So much better than the previous ones I done and so easy!
Oh yay, so glad you enjoyed them Sophia! I’ve had many a bad protein ball in my day… not anymore though ;)
Ooh! Cant wait to try this out! Wt dates do you use?
I just use normal dates from a packet I buy in Coles… I am not sure what type they are specifically sorry!!
Sorry guys – new to this – but will a blender work in place of a food processor for this particular recipe?
I have actually made my last 2 batches of protein balls in the blender as I don’t have a food processor at the moment. It’s a little more difficult (the blade is smaller, and sometimes ingredients get stuck in the bottom) but it definitely works! :)
Is there something I could use to substitute the dates? I really want to try this recipe but unfortunately I have no dates.
The dates act has sweetness and moisture so they are pretty important in these protein balls, but you can substitute for another dried fruit if you like!
Is there a table available with the nutritional values?
Hi Emily, unfortunately no, but you can calculate it yourself here! https://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/calculator
Di you have the nutritional info for the completed balls? Not just calories but carbs, protein, fat etc?
Hi Vee, I don’t I’m afraid but you can calculate it yourself here! https://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/calculator
