I recently discovered Pamukkale, Turkey through a friend’s photos on Instagram. It came as no surprise to me that Pamukkale translated as “cotton castle” – it looks like these hot springs formed against cliffs have been draped in white cotton candy! Pamukkale’s terraces are made of travertine, a sedimentary rock deposited by water from the hot springs. I am adding Pamukkale to my bucket list!

hum.. been there about 10 years ago and sorry to disapoint you but they change the current of the hot spring water to go to hotel swimming pools… so there isn’t enought water for the white process to continue.. so they put concrete to keep the shape of the pool everywhere… so you’re not missing much :)
It sounds like Turkey isn’t doing much to preserve this natural wonder which is a real shame. Apparently the pools have dried up now!!
I really, really, REALLY wanted to visit Pamukkale (and Cappadocia) when I was in Turkey last year, but was overruled by my travelling companions. I definitely need to go back there by myself and do some exploring – Turkey is an amazingly beautiful country :)

That place looks spectacular! Methinks it’s going on my bucket list too.
I have a habit of returning to places I love over and over again so it will be good to explore somewhere new!
