Never Stop Learning: Places around Australia to learn a new hobby or up skill at work

I love to learn. I have a bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, a diploma in Graphic Design and Communication, plus I have completed courses in film production, jewellery making, food photography, pattern drafting and terrarium building (!)

Whilst a lot of these courses went towards improving my skill set at work or for the blog, some of these were out of curiosity or just to have a bit of fun. My mind thrives on absorbing new information and as soon as I master one thing, I’m looking for the next thing to conquer.

So whether you’re looking to improve your skills or simply learn a new hobby, here is my list of places to learn:

Work-Shop, Sydney and Melbourne

Want to learn how to make your own succulent-filled terrarium, some new typography skills or delicious and healthy drink blends? Work-shop has locations in both Sydney and Melbourne with a huge array of affordable classes to choose from.

The School, Sydney-based, with dates scheduled around Australia

I’ve signed up for a calligraphy class with Maybelle at The School in May and am literally counting down the days. So excited! They also have classes on everything from food styling, macrame and florography to small business and even Instagram.

Cornersmith, Sydney

Located in Marrickville, Cornersmith is a cafe and picklery that put on a great range of DIY food classes including fermenting, pickling, smoking and cheese making. I want to do them all!

Agrarian Kitchen, Tasmania

The Agrarian Kitchen, located just outside of Hobart, is a sustainable farm-based cooking school set in a 19th century schoolhouse. They have a variety of paddock-to-plate experiences on offer from preparing locally-sourced meat to making sourdough bread and desserts. I can’t wait to visit for a long weekend!

General Assembly, Sydney and Melbourne

GA offers a great array of full-time and part-time courses, as well as single day workshops and classes on everything from mobile and web development to digital marketing and project management. I am currently eyeing off a front-end web development course with them.

Universities, Australia-wide

Don’t want to commit to a 3 year degree? Plenty of Universities around Australia offer short courses which you can do at night after work, or on weekends.

TAFE, Australia-wide

Uni too expensive? TAFE offers a great range of courses that are much cheaper as well! Just make sure you do your research.
