The weather is heating up in Australia as summer approaches and I am always on the look out for a delicious new drink to whip up and enjoy on a lazy afternoon. Now it’s easy to make your own personalised drinks with a few simple ingredients thanks to the SodaStream Play!
Created by world-renowned designer Yves Behar, this home carbonation system is a simple (and fun!) way to turn plain tap water into something more creative. You literally press down on the machine and voila. Instantly carbonated water!
The SodaStream Play comes in black, blue, red and white and brand new yellow and grey and is a new interpretation of the shape and material selection of the SodaStream system.
If you’re unsure of what drinks to create, the SodaStream Play comes with a variety of flavourings including cola, orange, lemon-lime and pink grapefruit. I’m not a huge fan of overly sweet drinks, so my favourite was their new “Naturals” variety pack that naturally flavoured and sweetened, with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives plus lower in calories.
I was tossing up between the green tea-lychee flavour and the fresh lemonade and settled on the latter. You can’t beat good old lemonade!
The SodaStream Caps are extremely easy to use, once you’ve carbonated your tap water, you simply twist the cap onto the top of the bottle, click into place and let the flavour drip in.
To give the drink an extra hit of flavour, I paired it with fresh strawberries and mint, always a winning combination in my books. And because I love lemon, I topped the drink off with a final squeeze of fresh lemon.

Ingredients
- Tap water
- SodaStream Fresh Lemonade Cap
- 1 Lemon
- 1 handful of strawberries
- Mint leaves some whole, some finely chopped
Instructions
- Place tap water into SodaStream PET bottle and insert into the SodaStream Play machine.
- Gently press down on the machine once for light carbonation, twice for medium or three times for a very carbonated beverage.
- Once tap water has been carbonated, place the SodaStream Fresh Lemonade Cap to the top of the bottle, click down and let the flavouring flow in.
- Take 2 glasses (or mason jars for extra cool points) and place in a few sliced strawberries and mint leaves at the bottom of each vessel.
- Poor the lemonade drink in, add a generous squeeze of fresh lemon and stir until combined.
- Enjoy!
The drink was fruity and refreshing, and the addition of vodka would make it the perfect summer cocktail!
I can’t wait to try out SodaStream’s other flavour caps and make some more delicious drinks. I think I’m addicted.

Hi Sarah!!!!
I would combine the green tea-lychee with some fresh pineapple and a splash of coconut water with mint leaves and a twist of lime!
I would create a drink with vodka, raspberries and lemonade
I would create a jasmine & green tea infused drink topped with a fresh lychee. A herbal tea usual drunk hot but would definitely be refreshing to have it as a cold sparkling drink!
We legit go through a bottle of soda water a day in house. Lover of carbonated beverages or maybe just obsessed? Probs the later. I’m thinking lemonade SodaStream, dash of cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime. HELLO SUMMER.
Around 35 years ago my nana introduced me to Sodastream. I loved the privilege of having a special bubble drink each time we visited Nan. The usual mix was lime and bubbles. Nothing special, but what I remember most was she would give us a straw. Usually one that had been washed and put back in the cupboard. One she picked up at the local shops. Not a packet, just one!
This new Sodastream, the updated version would go down a treat at my mums place. This way she can share the bubbles drink with my kids, her grandchildren. Only thing, grandma has new straws, ones she would NEVER wash and put back in the cupboard.
Swah- what a great post. It all looks so delish!
I’m thinking of two (is that allowed haha!)
Obviously, on a nice summers day the apple-peach with fresh raspberries and perhaps some mint over ice would be perfect!
BUT I think I’d have to go with kiwi pear, with a dash of vodka and some fresh pear slices. YUM!
Oh yum, your recipe is something I’d make too as those flavours go so well together but with a splash of gin or vodka too ;)
The Blonde Tourist Berry Bomb
Start with fresh watermelon juice for a tasty treat,
Add berries to add something sweet,
A Pink Grapefruit cap adds the citrus zing,
Muddled with mint and topped with fresh lime for that perfect drink in Spring!
Home made lemonade (mixed with ice and Pimms!)
Lychee is one of my favourite flavours so I’d use the green tea-lychee, add some passion fruit, pineapple juice and a squeeze of lime. Top it off with some fresh lychees and ice. If you want to be fancy, rub some lime juice on the rim of the glass and dip in coconut shavings before making the drink.
My homemade passionfruit and mango infused kombucha served over ice and topped with SodaStream ‘bubbles’ would make a knockout drink to quench your thirst on a balmy summer’s night! And be healthful to boot!
fancy looking lemonade! I love pink grapefruit anything so i would love a pink grapefruit and mango mocktail topped with coconut water!
omg i am totally obsessed with sparkling water! i would brew a pot of jasmine tea, let it cool down and then add in the kiwi and pear before placing it into the soda stream. Combination might sound weird but pear and jasmine are a match made in heaven as the jasmine helps cut through a bit of the sweetness!
I haven’t tried the caps yet but if they taste as good this looks, it’s a winner.
Spring Delight, A few simple ingredients SodaStream soda, sugar, strawberry syrup and fresh strawberries to make your tastebuds unwind with delight. :) WHOOP WHOOP Let play!
I would make an elderflower cordial and fresh thyme cordial. Ice cold with fresh mint leaves and maybe if you’re feeling naughty a splash of gin = ultimate summer cooler :) I’m not a big fan of overly sweet things either and the herbal/floral offset goes surprisingly well.
I would make a Sparkling Pink Lemonade Punch with fruit and mint leaves on top.
Perfect for a beautiful Spring or Summer day in the backyard.
My kids don’t like anything “too fancy” so I would make them a sparkling orange drink with little umbrellas.
I would make passion fruit lemonade all the family would enjoy this espically as we grow our own passion fruit
with a soda stream play maker I would make Coconut pop fizzy drink. With the cola syrup a dash of kalua and coconut syrup. Served over ice. Oh yum. Adult only mix
Fresh lemonade infused with watermelon and mint – simple, effective and summery… perfect for sipping while you lay by the pool, a sun hat on and a light breeze on your face. Welcome to a Sodastream summer!
They look lovely, bubbly and delicious! It was hot in Melbourne today so this is exactly what I needed. Bec x
I would create a base of green tea and lychee, add slices of lime and a handful of raspberries. I’d add a splash of vodka for an added kick of flavour.
Ooooh, I’d make a super yummy fruity Sangria, with a bit of Southern Comfort whiskey in it. Sounds odd, but MAN its good!
ooh. I think I’ll do a sweet and a savoury. I’d first carbonate water to make a tempura batter for a savoury main, and then carbonate a dry white wine to make a summer Bellini, with a berry purée, for a patio lunch.
I’d probably do my detox tea but as a cool drink. It’s delicious any which way. Brew it up to get out the flavours: fresh ginger, fresh thyme, fresh mint, lemon rind and a good squeeze of lemon all topped off with a spoonful of honey. Cool it down and then fizz it up! Refreshing, detoxing and yummy!
would have to be the apple and peach, mixed with crushed iced and added slices of Apple to the glassed, perfect for a hot summers day
