If I had a dollar for every time a friend/colleague/family member asked me for my dining suggestions, I would be very rich. You may have noticed from my Instagram that I eat out a lot, so I always have an ever-expanding list of recommendations to share.
I thought it would be easiest for everyone if I wrote all these down in one place, so I am going to start with my favourite meal of the day breakfast/brunch (depending on what time I wake up).
Some things to note:
– I have lived in Surry Hills, Redfern and Balmain and work in Chippendale, so most of my selections revolve around these areas. Fortunately, this is where the best food is (in my humble opinion).
– I will update this list as I visit more places, so feel free to bookmark it and come back later.
– I am also writing a lunch/dinner list and a desserts list. Stay tuned!
In no particular order….
Surry Hills
♥ Single Origin Roasters – 60-64 Reservoir St (great coffee, good selection of breakfast foods, limited seating)
♥ Bourke St Bakery – 633 Bourke St (for breakfast on the go, get the ginger brulee tart)
♥ Bruschetteria 102 – 102 Albion St (Nutella coffee and ALL the bruschetta options you can dream of)
♥ Kawa – 348 Crown St (healthy, free range, heaps of vego options and delicious!)
♥ The Paramount Coffee Project – 80 Commonwealth St (pictured below, a meat waffle!!)
♥ Bills – 359 Crown St (pictured below, their famous corn fritters)
♥ Cowbell 808 – 616 Bourke St (pictured below, their delicious burger and amazing ricotta pancakes)
Darlinghurst
♥ Edition Coffee Roasters – 265 Liverpool St (this Scandinavian/Japanese fusion cafe gave us possibly the prettiest breakfast ever with this black rice, adzuki bean, coconut flake and freeze dried berry dish)
Paddington
♥ Not Just Coffee – 264 Oxford St (I don’t really need to explain why you have to go, do I? Look at that cheeze ooze).
Chippendale/Ultimo
♥ Brickfields – 206 Cleveland St (delicious bakery full of pastries)
♥ Something For Jess – Cnr O’Connor St & Abercrombie St (pictured below, a salami and haloumi bruschetta stack)
♥ The Upside Cafe – 137 Broadway (everything on their menu is amazing including the pulled pork burger and juices – below – and great coffee)
Redfern
♥ St Jude – Cnr Thurlow And Bourke Streets (super friendly staff, lots of delicious eggy dishes and sandwiches)
♥ Three Williams – 613a Elizabeth St (pictured below, amazing narnies, fries and french toast)
♥ Kepos St Kitchen – 96 Kepos Street (pictured below, amazing falafels and hummus and a Southern fried chicken burger with a Middle Eastern twist. These chips could rival Three Williams for best chips in Sydney).
Waterloo
♥ The Ragland – 129 Raglan St (super lovely staff, great coffee, quite a few Malaysian-inspired breakfast options too)
♥ Devon on Danks – 2 Danks St (LOOK AT THAT FRENCH TOAST)
Balmain
♥ Bar Contessa – 371B Darling St (I’ve eaten that cheeseburger for breakfast more times than I care to admit)
Petersham
♥ Brighton the Corner – 49 Palace St (house made crumpets, below, are to die for. Also the beef hash with onion rings)

Yummm so many places to try. Devon on Danks looks especially amazing! I love Shuk and The Hill in Bondi.
I must admit I don’t venture out to Bondi often, but there are so many amazing cafes/restaurants springing up I’m going to have to! ;)
Awesome list – more new places to try! I visited Revolver last month and was suitably impressed, really good food with great flavours. My tip: go on your day off to beat the crowds! ;)
Ah yes I have heard rumours about Revolver’s crowds! I will definitely be giving it a try on a Monday or Tuesday :)
Beautiful photography. I want that french toast (OMG!). I will most certainly be checking back here before my next Sydney trip.
That french toast is AMAZING! Glad to be of help for your future trips Nicole!
I work at Brighton on Sundays, come in and say hi :)
P.S I love you Sarah, you are a total mindreader haha xx
I will definitely come visit you Alex and eat those house made crumpets again. Yum!!
woah! No gulias on Abercrombie st????
Also best chips – have you tried kellys pub Newtown? Their chips are even amazing cold!
I haven’t tried the food at Kelly’s I will be certainly trying those chips :)

Petty cash Cafe in marrickville needs to go on your list. Particularly on a day when you can borrow one of their picnic blankets and go sit in the park (with everything served just like if you were eating in!)
The Petty Cash menu looks DELISH! Another one for my list!
I’ve actually never tried Gulia’s!! I will have to go on my lunch break soon :)
Fantastic list – Love John Smith and Brewtown well worth a visit to both.
Thanks Paula! I’m hoping to check out both of those places ASAP :D
