It’s the first day of December and what does that mean? The countdown to Christmas starts! To celebrate I am sharing with you a different festive Christmas donut recipe each week.
As much as I love making (and especially eating) donuts, the thought of hovering over a hot pot of boiling oil to deep fry them is not desirable in the Australian summer heat. These mini baked donuts are super easy to make in either a donut pan:
or a donut maker:
And the first Christmas donut to get you salivating is my Candy Cane Donuts with White Chocolate. It’s a classic Christmas flavour combination that looks and tastes great!
This was my first time using a donut machine and I was impressed by how quick and easy it was. No greasing was required and the donuts cooked in 2-3 minutes flat! It sure beats deep frying (plus it makes them healthier… err apart from the ganache and candy that covers them..)

Ingredients
Donuts
- 70 g butter softened
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1½ cups plain flour
White Chocolate Icing
- 100 g White Chocolate finely chopped
- 3 tbsp thickened cream
- Candy Canes to decorate
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 160°C and grease your donut pan with flavourless oil OR turn on your donut maker (you won't need any oil if you use the latter).
- Cream together the butter and sugar in a medium bowl until fluffy. Add in the egg, milk, and vanilla and mix until just combined. The mixture may look curdled but the dry ingredients will pull it together.
- Add in the baking powder and flour and stir until just combined.
- Transfer mixture to a medium zip lock bag and cut the corner tip cut off. Pipe the mixture into the donut pans until each is approximately 2/3 full.
- If using a donut pan, bake in the oven for around 10 minutes until lightly golden brown. If using a mini donut maker, bake for 2-3 minutes.
- Allow donuts to cool completely before decorating.
White Chocolate Icing
- Put candy canes into zip lock plastic bag and pummel with a rolling pin until crushed.
- Heat cream up into the microwave until warm (not boiling) and then add finely chopped chocolate, stirring until melted and combined.
- Dip the top of the donuts into the chocolate mixture, sprinkle over crushed candy canes and place on a cooling tray to set.
The white chocolate ganache is incredibly easy to make, it just involves melting and stirring 2 ingredients together. And kids would love getting involved with the decorating – smashing candy canes is strangely satisfying!
And if you have leftover mini candy canes, they make the perfect donut topper decoration.
Have you ever used a donut maker before? Do you want to give it a go?

Never used a donut maker before but now I really want one! Or one of those mini donut pans!
They make life dangerously easy Helen!
oh my, I never even knew such a thing as a donut pan existed, now I have to look for one. Those just look too adorable. Pretty donuts might be my new macaroon which was my new cupcake. Oh dear.
Haha we always need a dessert in fashion don’t we! And baked donuts are incredibly easy and quick to make, unlike the macaron!

Oh I looove these!! The fact that they’re not deep-fried is great because my tummy and oil do not get along at all so I never eat donuts… now I can!! Such gorgeous photos too. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Foodie Fridays! xx
Thanks Lucy! Likewise my tummy doesn’t love too many deep fried things, so baked donuts are the perfect solution for a sweet binge hehe xx
